Champion for Change Lewis Gordon Pugh swims Everest

Two years ago Champion for Change Lewis Gordon Pugh swam across the North Pole, when it should have been frozen. In his continuing commitment to drawing attention to areas rapidly affected by climate change, this month he swam a kilometer across a glacial lake below the summit of Mount Everest. GSA headlines at NCAA Championships

GSA Champion for Change Natalie Spilger spoke to a full house at the NCAA Men's and Women's Division II Tennis Tournament. She talked about the importance of environmental action in sports. GSA worked with NCAA to make the event the first ever green outdoor NCAA tennis championship.

World Cup goes solar
Solar panels powered two of the five stadiums at the World Cup in South Africa. One structure also has a rainwater collection system installed for the games to minimize water use.
USA Special Olympics takes first steps to go green!
The USA Special Olympics in July will provide recycle bins for the anticipated 11,000 attendees, cut paper by using online applications, and source some supplies locally.

Pacific Rim Invitational International 14 Sailing Challenge

Hawaii Team Captain Andy Bates will represent GSA USA at this year's Pacific Rim Invitational International 14 Sailing Challenge on the island of Oahu. Fourteen is the oldest international sailing class, with its first sanctioned race in 1928. This year, the event is hosted by the Kaneohe Yacht Club on October 9 - 12. Organizers will promote clean air and water and will fly the ecoflag.

Scottsdale Cycling Festival

Our new partner DC Ranch Community, located adjacent to the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, will be hosting their annual Scottsdale Cycling Festival September 30 - October 3, 2010.  The festival will include the 70-mile Tour de Scottsdale, a competitive Criterium, Kids' Race, Family Fun Ride, and Expo.  All events benefit the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy which protects the Preserve's environmental significance.  The Festival has pledged to fly the GSA ecoflag along with their commitment to host an event which protects and enriches nature, reduces consumption, and promotes sustainability.  Volunteer opportunities available.
