GSA USA develops national, regional and community based initiatives for Green Sports Events through the work of our partners and volunteers. Volunteer GSA Teams form in local communities led by a Team Captain. They work with event organizers, schools, clubs, associations, and other organizations that are interested in bringing environmental awareness and actions to fans and sports participants.
GSA teams work in cities across the United States. To find one in your area, or sign up to become a Team Captain follow this link.
Our Team Captains and volunteers work with partnering organizations to:
Identify and assess the environmental impact of a sports event or sports activities through the use of the GSA ecosports assessment (download assessment)
Address the environmental impact by offering solutions and action steps such as community education, using GSA ecosports guidelines and working with partnering organizations to reduce waste and encourage recycling and other measures. (download guidelines)
Promote environmental awareness, and the environmental programs of sports events and organizers.
Ecoflag
The GSA ecoflag can be flown at an event or stadium to represent the organization’s commitment to the planet, and to remind fans to consider the environment. The ecoflag is recognized by the United Nations Environment Programme as a symbol of environmental stewardship in sports. To fly the ecoflag at your event, please contact dina@gsa-usa.org.
